The Transgender Family Handbook contains 144 specific suggestions, from trans young people and their loved ones, that parents may find helpful. In more than 100 conversations with transgender children and adults, their parents, and healthcare providers, the authors found that many big-picture questions have pretty straightforward answers. That includes the hard stuff, too, like how they weighed medical decisions and dealt with bullying. Then came the practical tips: dozens of pieces of advice on what to read, where to shop, and how to find ways to connect as a family. Parents shared the texts they sent to classmates’ parents, the talking points they used with well-intentioned but misinformed family members, and the ways they found welcoming spaces for their children.
